A group of concerned citizens has joined hands to bring some desperately needed cheer to residents of two area nursing homes, and we need your help! As we hear reports that residents of these facilities are feeling isolated, depressed, and scared during this pandemic, we must do all we can to show them they are not forgotten.
After reaching out to several facilities in the Capital Region, we have heard of the needs of two – Shaker Place in Albany, and the Saratoga Center for Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Care in Ballston Spa. Our goal is to assemble 240 goody bags, one for each resident. We are told residents often ask for items such as lotions, notecards, pens, and stamps, so these are at the top of the list, but you may donate any small non-food items you think might bring some cheer. Certainly the dollar stores would be a great, inexpensive place to find treasures. Just drop off your donations and we will assemble the bags.
In addition, we would like to add a little note of hope and cheer to each bag. Perhaps you could enlist your kids to draw a picture with the words “you are loved,” or “we care about you!” We will be sure one gets in every bag.
Just look for the bin marked Nursing Home Donations at the following drop off locations and times from May 28 – June 5:

1956 Central Ave Albany (next to Tafts)
Bin will be at main entrance in rear of building near picnic area
