On April 21, 2018 Indivisible 518 hosted a seminar in downtown Albany aimed at generating interest in actions to prepare for the midterm elections.
Elected representative speakers included Congressman Paul Tonko and State Assemblymember Phil Steck.
Citizen activist speakers included Dr. Joan Mandle, Executive Director of Democracy Matters, and Zackery Smith from the Progressive Action Network.
Topics included: the urgency of increasing progressive turnout at the midterms; the need to get big money out of the electoral process; the success of public funding of local campaigns; the importance of downballot races; the need to modernize New York’s election laws to encourage more participation; practical ways to get involved and effect change; and, the general need to hold elected representatives accountable for advancing a progressive agenda.
